President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 151st birth anniversary, describing his contribution to India’s freedom struggle and the creation of modern India as unforgettable.
In a message shared on X, the President highlighted Patel’s historic role in unifying the country and establishing a strong administrative system. She also encouraged citizens to draw inspiration from his life and ideals while working towards building a developed India.
Remembering the ‘Iron Man of India’, President Murmu said Patel was a leading figure in the freedom movement and a principal architect of modern India.
She noted that his contribution to the unity and integrity of the nation is honoured every year through National Unity Day, observed on October 31 to mark his birth anniversary.
The President expressed hope that citizens would follow Patel’s values and work with dedication towards the country’s development.
President Murmu offered floral tributes at Sardar Patel’s statue at Patel Chowk in New Delhi. She also paid homage to him at Gantantra Mandap in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj were among the other leaders who paid floral tributes at Sardar Patel Chowk.
Born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat, Patel played a significant role in India’s independence movement and the integration of the country after Independence.
He served as independent India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. His leadership and commitment to national integration earned him the title ‘Iron Man of India’.
National Unity Day provides an opportunity to remember Patel’s contribution to India’s unity, integrity and administrative foundations. His legacy continues to inspire efforts towards national integration and collective development.
