Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to legendary engineer and statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on National Engineers’ Day, while praising engineers across India for their contribution to innovation, development and nation-building.
In his message, PM Modi described engineers as “Karmayogis” who transform ideas and aspirations into tangible achievements and help build a better future.
Extending greetings to engineers across the country, PM Modi highlighted their role in developing solutions and turning ambitious ideas into reality.
He also paid tribute to Visvesvaraya, whose engineering achievements and nation-building vision continue to inspire generations of engineers.
The Prime Minister emphasised India’s long tradition of engineering excellence and praised engineers for turning what once appeared unimaginable into achievable accomplishments.
National Engineers’ Day is observed every year on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
Born on September 15, 1861, Visvesvaraya became one of India’s most celebrated civil engineers and statesmen. He is widely remembered as the “Father of Modern Mysore” for his contribution to infrastructure development and public projects.
The Government of India officially designated September 15 as National Engineers’ Day in 1968.
Visvesvaraya made significant contributions to public infrastructure and engineering in India.
Among his notable achievements was his role in the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore. He also played an important role in the design and implementation of complex flood protection systems.
His work established an enduring legacy of engineering excellence and public service.
Visvesvaraya was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1955 in recognition of his major contributions to engineering, public projects and society.
His legacy continues to serve as an inspiration for India’s engineering community, particularly in areas involving infrastructure development and innovative solutions to public challenges.
In his message, PM Modi described engineers as Karmayogis who contribute to the country’s progress through creativity, technical expertise and dedication.
He highlighted the ability of Indian engineers to transform dreams into reality and said their work has helped establish India’s distinct identity in the global engineering landscape.
The Prime Minister also called attention to Visvesvaraya’s enduring contribution to India’s engineering heritage.
